The Life and Times of Brian Boru, Heidi the Goat Girl and Megan the Mooncat!

Brian Boru

Brian

(Rycroft of Salisbury)

DOB: 24 July 2005

Eye Certificate: 23/9/08 Clear

Brian is our Black Labrador, he joined us on the 19th Sep 2005 when he was 8 weeks old. (He is about 5 weeks old in the picture) Brian is now 3 and a half, he has is Bronze, Silver and Gold good Citizen awards and has competed in Obedience competions over the past three years, being placed in a few. Brian is part of Shrewton District DTC where as well as doing obedience we also take part in dog displays and in Febuary 2009 he will be starring in a pantomime! This year we decided on a change of activity for Brian as he seemed to be getting a little bored so he now regularly attends agility classes and has also commenced Gundog training. He has his passed his Grade one Gundog test and is now training for his Grade 2. Brian also really enjoys swimming and has a weekly swimming session at our local Hydrotherapy pool where he swims for about half an hour a time!

Agility Update

Brian has been competing in Agility now since the begining of the year and is doing reasonably well. Due to his hip problems we are running in the anysize classes so he can jump medium height.

Brian's achievements in agility are below:

9 Clear Rounds

2 1st Places

3 2nd Places

2 4th Places

1 5th Place

Tollard Royal Agility

On 29th March Brian and me entered our first agility competition and what a great day we had. Brian entered four classes, Agility, ABC Agility, Steeplechase and Jumping. He worked really hard and really enjoyed himself as did I. Now we are practicing hard on our team work as my slightest movement and being in the wrong place affects where Brian runs so hopefully we will have improved by our next competition which is in a few weeks time. Brian has also started Flyball classes which he loves, so far we have had two classes and our next one is in a fortnights time.

Photo Update

Here are a few up to date photos of Brian.

Agility Training

Brian has been doing really well at his agility tarining since he started in October 2008. We have now moved up from the 'New starters' class to the 'Advanced Starters' class and have our first lesson in this class on Saturday (7th February 2009). Brian does very well, he listens to what he is told and goes wherever directed however is not to keen on going ahead without me but i am sure that will come with practice. I am hoping Brian will have had his first competition by the end of the year but we will see how he goes.

'Brian enjoying a swim'

Brain is now 2 and a half years old. In July this year he got his Gold Kennel Club certificate and in September in the Shrewton Dog Show Brian came 1st in the Beginners obedience, 2nd in the Triers and 6th in the Advanced. He also picked up a 1st for Most Handsome Dog, 4th for the Best Pedegree and a Judges Special for Best Sporting Variety.

Brian now attends and advanced obedience class in Shrewton where he is currently learing more competitive obedience.

As well as doing obedience, Brian's most favorite thing is swimming. Since January 2007, Brian has been going swimming once a week at our local dog pool and he absolutely loves it! He can now swim for up to 30 minutes against the currents in the pool.

This is Brian and his rosettes from the Shrewton Show.

2006

In September 2006 he won his first rosette for obedience in the Shrewton Dog Show where he came 2nd in the Beginners obedience and 3rd in the Triers obedience.
